Share Kai Café.

Lunch with a purpose.

We use kai to bring people together and help remove barriers to participating in our society.

The Share Kai Café at Canterbury WEA connects customers with the cuisines of Afghanistan, Eritrea, Pakistan and Nepal one Friday lunchtime every month in the heart of Ōtautahi.

From Monday August 11th - Wednesday September 3rd we’re also running a Pop-up Share Kai Café in Addington at The Others Café, 314 Lincoln Road 10 - 2pm Mondays - Wednesdays. Check out more here, no online ordering required, just come visit us!

Run by the Share Kai Cooks Collective our cafés are incubator for members, providing the opportunity to build hospitality and keep all proceeds.

The Share Kai Café at Canterbury WEA opening hours are lunchtime 12 - 1.30pm on first Friday of every month. Come and join us in the sunny dining space at 59 Gloucester Street, we accept cash and payWave, or order online (help our cooks plan and reduce waste!) below.

How our online order system works:

  1. A new lunch menu featuring traditional dishes from one of our four groups: Afghan, Eritrean, Nepali/Bhutanese and Pakistani - will be released at least 1 week prior to each café day.

  2. Order and pay for your lunch online by clicking on the menu items below (by Thursday 11am please!).

  3. Choose your dining time - 12 midday or 12.45pm - due to high demand we are trying to space out our dining, please consider coming at 12.45pm instead of 12 if your lunch break allows!

  4. Dine in or take your order away (for takeaway we appreciate it if you bring your own container!) at WEA Canterbury.

Upcoming café days at WEA Canterbury, 59 Gloucester Street:

September 5th - Bhutanese/Nepali, October 3rd - Pakistani, November 7th - Afghan. Hours 12 - 1.30pm.
